Introduction to Weekly Whisker Wisdom

Hello everybody, and welcome to my blog!  My name is Kaitlyn, and I have been an avid pet lover for as long as I can remember.  I distinctly remember my “dream job” growing up was to be a veterinarian.  Well, life has taken me in a different direction, but that doesnt mean I can’t share my opinions and wisdom with pet parents from all across the globe!  I have acquired a lot of knowledge about pets from all of the animal based jobs that I have had.  Straight out of highschool, I worked for a dog walking/pet sitting company.  A few years later I worked at a doggy daycare.   I even volunteered on a farm for a while where I worked mainly with the goats.  I currently volunteer at Baypath Humane Society a couple times a week, run my own business; Radiant Paws Pet Care, where I offer pet sitting services, and I am also on Rover, offering pet sitting services.

Growing up I was always around dogs.  Throughout my entire childhood, my family always had a dog in the household.  We had Holly, the springer spaniel, who unfortunately passed away from cancer when I was only 7 years old, therefore I don’t remember her all that well.  Then came Angel, the golden retriever who certainly lived up to her name.  I will never forget that sweet girl, truly an angel sent from above!  Now, my parents have Colbie, the sweetest tri color Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  Colbie has a lot of health issues, but my parents have been able to give him an amazing life, despite all the medications that he has to take daily.  He is currently a happy, healthy eight year old boy.  Ironically, he has outlived all the other dogs my family has had, despite all of his health problems.

I moved out of my childhood home and into an apartment in Marlborough with my boyfriend, Jake in 2022.  We both came to the conclusion that it felt somewhat empty in the apartment without a pet.  I had always grown up with dogs, and Jake had always grown up with cats.  We decided we wanted to adopt a cat, and along came Opal.  We adopted her at 3 months old from Second Chance Animal Shelter in East Brookfield (an amazing organization!) She is now almost 2 years old and is sassy, spunky, and independent but loves a good snuggle session in bed (on her terms!).  About a year later, I was scrolling Facebook and saw a kitten in need of a home.  He immediately caught my eye and I went to go rescue him that same day.  We named him Ash and he is the most snuggly, affectionate cat I have ever met.  We joke that we should have named him Shadow because he follows me everywhere!  We also have a rabbit, a white Mini Lop named Willow who is a sweetheart as well, and a Betta fish named Bones.

Everyone thinks they have the best pets, and everyone is right.  With this blog, my goal is to enlighten, educate (with information I have gathered, please consult your veterinarian for any medical advice, I am by no means a professional), and share my opinions and stories I have collected throughout the years.   We are going to discuss a lot, from supplements, to fun facts, to powerful stories about pet ownership that will hopefully resonate and inspire some people.  We are all just trying to be the best pet parents we can possibly be, and if I can help even one person, that would make me the happiest person in the world!  Thank you for reading!
